Police Not Able To Locate Witnesses

Magistrate Liyanage Wickramasekara has asked Police prosecutor special constable Sitiveni Baleitaveuni to have their Investigation Officer present in the next court date.

Police prosecutor Special Constable Baleitaveuni informed the court that they were not able to locate the witnesses.

This is in regards to the case of the nine accused – Jone Vakarisi, Tevita Bulanaivalu, Ledua Gudru, Sekove Serukalou, Jese Sorovi, Toni Sokoiwasa, Chanel Antonio Afumarata, Mark Ross and Semisi Rabakoko

Magistrate Wickramasekara told the Police prosecutor that they should update the court of issues as such and to keep in mind that all the accused were in remand for this matter.

The nine accused persons are each charged with one count of going equipped for a property offence, seven counts of criminal intimidation, one count of damaging property and one count of resisting arrest.

It is alleged that on August 3, 2018, the nine accused persons in Nabua, while travelling in vehicles, were equipped with cane knives, with the intention of committing a property offence.

It is also alleged that on the same day, the nine accused persons in Nabua, without lawful excuse, with intent to cause alarm, threatened to kill five Police officers. They are also alleged to have willfully and unlawfully damaged the rear left door glass, rear left door glass outlet moulding, rear windscreen, front bumper bar, left headlamp and bonnet of a Police vehicle.

The damage was valued at $3095, the property of the Fiji Police Force.

All nine accused are also alleged to have resisted arrest from Police constables who were executing their duty.

The case has been further adjourned to March 7.
