The Republic of Fiji Military Forces will be firing fifteen (15) blank rounds from a one hundred and five (105) pound artillery weapon during the funeral of the late Colonel Paul Manueli at Lovonilase Cemetery from 1200hrs to 14hrs on Friday 01 March 2019.

Members of the public especially those residing in the nearby area are cautioned as heavy explosion reverberation will result from the firing of the 105 pound artillery during the funeral.

Traffic plan

Meanwhile, a statement from Fiji Roads Authority outlined Suva’s traffic plan on the funeral procession for today and tomorrow.

Motorists and the general public in Suva are advised that a sections of Suva’s roads would be closed as follows:

nAmy street from the MIOT hospital to Brown Street roundabout from 1pm to 2pm today.

  • Town Hall Road, Scott Street, Rodwell Road, Foster Road from 11am to 2pm tomorrow.
  • Foster Road and Queens Road from 2pm to 2.30pm tomorrow. Motorists are requested to use alternative routes during the period of temporary closure.

Any inconvenience caused is regretted.

Tribute

Meanwhile, the Opposition leader, Sitiveni Rabuka, has paid tribute to late Colonel Manueli, former Senator and Minister for Finance, member of the Bose Levu Vakaturaga, and the first local Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.

“My association with the late Col. Manueli dated back several decades from our time together in the military which he headed from 1974 to 1979.

During our time together in national leadership, where he was a Senator and Minister for Finance in the Soqosoqo Vakavulewa ni Taukei (SVT) Government I led from 1992-1999, I always appreciated his frank, genuine and honest advice, both at personal and national level.”
