Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts Rosy Akbar has broken her silence amid increasing social media trolls associating her to estranged husband, Ravindra Singh.

Ms Abkar, who had been tight lipped on the subject for awhile, set the record straight publicly that she and her daughters were not in any way associated with Singh.

Singh had been charged with one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs and has been released on bail.

Photographs of Ms Akbar, her daughters and that of Singh have gone viral on social media after Singh was charged.

Speaking on the matter, Minister Akbar said she was very disturbed by the public condemnation directed towards her and her daughters.

“We have been separated for over a year and a half,” Ms Akbar said.

“We have our divorce proceedings in court which was lodged a year ago and these things take time.

“It is wrong for people to associate him to my daughters and I.”

She said her family was going through a difficult time and did not deserve to be treated as such.

“I am very disturbed by it because my children have been subjected to online bullying,” said Ms Akbar.

“People have made my personal life a public affair, and to some extent it could be justified because I am holding a public office and people have a right to know.

“My daughters and I do not deserve to go through what we are going through now.”

She has requested members of the public to respect her privacy.

“I am going to fight this because it is not only me, it can be any woman out there, any family out there,” Ms Akbar said.

“We need to fight this because we live in a society which is very judgemental especially with women and I am going to fight for my girls.

“I would really appreciate for people to respect my privacy and now that I have made things clear publicly, I do not want to be associated with that man.”
