Olympian and former Fiji Airways Fijian 7s playmaker Vatemo Ravouvou wedded Makereta Varo at the Saunaka Methodist Church in Nadi yesterday.

The couple exchanged vows in front of the family and friends. The couple had their civil marriage on October 6, 2017.

“It is a happy day for me and I thank the Lord for giving me the strength and a good wife,” Ravouvou said.

“Today is a precious moment and will cherish it for the rest of my life.”

He would try his level best to be part of the Gareth Baber-coached side in future. He was dropped from the team for disciplinary issues at the Cape Town Sevens.

“I still want to represent Fiji but first I had to get married then step up training. The relationship with the coach is business as usual and no grudges.”

He also wished the team well in their outing at the USA 7s this weekend.

“Best of luck to the boys in Vegas,” he said.

Ravouvou had known Makereta, 28, a nurse by profession from Moala, Nadi since his school days.

She said things got serious six years ago when Ravouvou returned from the USA 7s in Las Vegas.

She will continue to support him in his rugby career.

The Yasawa native said he met Makereta during a wedding in Saunaka.
