If you cannot help the whole world, just start with one person, says Christie Tuilau.

The-26-year-old customer service representative with New Zealand company Harmoney, based at Mindpearl, Nasinu, made the comment yesterday.

She and fellow colleagues formed a special bond with children of Saint Christopher’s Home and took them for a treat at the movies yesterday.

“We would always visit the kids at the Home so this was the first time that the sisters gave us approval to take them out,” Ms Tuilau said.

“We watched the Lego movie and the kids had a  lot of fun and it just feel so good that we were able to do this for them.”

What started as a random visit has become a tradition for the past three years, so the staff make it a point to visit the Home and spend time with the children once every quarter.

The staff organise bake sales and fundraise throughout the year to raise money for this.

“We go there at the beginning of the year with school stationery and then to give gifts before Christmas,” Ms Tuilau said.

“These children come from different backgrounds. Some of them have gone through a lot so just being able to do something for them in itself is overwhelming for us.

“It can get emotional and overwhelming spending time with them, it’s just pure joy.”

Ms Tuilau has called on corporate bodies, or anyone in whatever capacity they can, to support, help and share happiness in communities.

“Sometimes we complain too much about our lives, but we fail to realise that there are people who are less privileged,” she said.

“So, we need to step out of it and do whatever we can to make a difference to someone’s life.”
