The Fiji Police Force is thankful for the positive engagement from members of the public to its various community policing efforts.

This was revealed at the first Divisional Crime Prevention Committee Meeting for the West this year at Lautoka.

Divisional Manager for Community Policing, West (DMCP/W) Superintendent of Police (SP) Lepani Liga hosted the meeting at the Western Police Headquarters.

He highlighted the opening of the newly-renovated Varoka Community Post in Ba that caught everyone’s attention, adding that there were positive remarks from everyone who read about the event in the Fiji Sun.

“Working together can have a positive impact on everyone only when we are working towards a common goal. The Fiji Police Force is hopeful of forming a stronger working relationship with a wider section of society,” said SP Liga.

“When we work together criminal elements won’t have a lot of room to move because we have more eyes and ears on the ground and we will be able to reduce crime.”

Representatives from crime prevention committees from around the division elaborated on activities over the past year and what they planned for this year.

Crime Prevention Committees assist Police officers with awareness and advocating a Crime -Free environment within their respective communities.

SP Liga said the impact of the Crime Prevention Committee would be reflected in the number of reports received in their area and he hoped to see that in their next Divisional Crime Prevention meeting scheduled for next month.

Crime prevention committee district representatives from Sigatoka to Rakiraki were present along with officers in charge of the various Police stations.
