Fiji Roads Authority: Ferry Boat Services Could Ease Traffic Congestion
This was probably an idea that a private organisation or an individual could work on, FRA Chief said.

Ferry boat services between Lami, Suva, and Nausori during peak hours could be a way to ease traffic congestion, says Fiji Road Authority chief executive Jonathan Moore.

He said the idea was another way to get people involved in doing things which would benefit the community, those who are travelling and those who operate ferry services as well.

This was probably an idea that a private organisation or an individual could work on, Mr Moore said.

Mr Moore said the ferry idea was part of a discussion that he had, but it was not in the FRA portfolio.

The Fiji Sun had also received some comments from Lami residents working in Suva that it takes them more than one hour to get to their workplaces every morning.

Mr Moore said there were plans to construct a four-lane road along the Lami to Suva corridor.

However, considering the surrounding areas it would need massive amount of consultations and planning.

Barges are already used sometimes to shift cargo across Suva Harbour.

In cities such as Auckland, Wellington, Sydney and Brisbane ferry services on the harbours or river (Brisbane) are already used to beat road congestion.
