People, among them ratepayers, recklessly continue to dispose unwanted trash on the side of the roads for the Lautoka City Council to clear.

This was the sentiment raised by the council chief executive officer, Jone Nakauvadra, at the weekend.

“People are supposed to put their green waste on the side of the road from mid-March because that is when we do the clean up until end of the month,” he said.

“But these people are also not supposed to scatter non-green rubbish on the side of the road. It becomes an eyesore.”

“When people receive the notice from the LTC for clean up, then they can start to put out all sorts of rubbish.

“But they should remember the right time to put the rubbish out and what type of rubbish,” Mr Nakauvadra said.

“Because the council wants a clean environment we just have to pick it up, but when we catch people throwing unwanted rubbish on the side of the road and at the non-pick up time then we will not hesitate to penalise them with a fine.”
