Mother Dies In Vehicle Driven By Daughter

A 40-year-old woman is the latest victim to lose her life on our roads after the vehicle she was travelling in veered off the road and collided with the steel railings on the roadside.

The accident occurred along the Queens Road near Naevuevu in Sigatoka on Saturday morning.

The victim, who is from Navutulevu Village in Serua, was travelling to Nadi Airport with her family to farewell her husband, who works for the Auditor-General’s Office.

“Tupou Turiasalevu was a kind and generous woman who deserved many more years to her life,” said village headman (Turaga-ni-Koro) Uraia Ratulevu.

The former employee of the Outrigger Beach Resort was mother to four children; three daughters and a son.

The victim was rushed to the Sigatoka Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Her 20-year-old daughter Marica Bulou Vela was believed to have been driving the vehicle when the incident occurred.

She is in Police custody while the remaining three passengers have been treated and sent home.

Mrs Turiasalevu’s funeral is expected to take place this Saturday.

The road death toll now stands at 11 compared with eight for the same period last year.
