After a recent community project undertaken by Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort’s Bebe Spa team, ten successful applicants have emerged from the first round of the Cutting Edge Project.

This is a not-for-profit fundraising organization EmpowHAIR Ministry Charity, helping Fijians to find meaningful employment in the beauty industry.

Charity founder Dani Haddad, an Australian hair stylist and training academy manager, was in Fiji last month to oversee the intensive week-long training with colleague and industry educator Steven Rasitti.

The ten applicants all received certificates and are now busy practicing their new skills in their villages ahead of the final competition on Saturday June 1 when the winners will be announced at a special awards night.

The competition winner will receive a free scholarship to study an 8 to 10 month ‘’Diploma in Hair dressing” with Pivot Point Fiji whist the 2nd and the 3rd place will receive a “Certificate in Men’s Barbering”.

Ms Haddad said that she was proud to be behind a project that provides a great opportunity for the winners to find rewarding, long-term employment in the beauty industry in Fiji.

“The Pivot Point Diploma in Hairdressing course teaches; salon fundamentals, men’s barbering and ladies’ sculpture, hair design and colour, providing all the skills for a gratifying career,” she said.

Comment from Outrigger

Outrigger Fiji’s resort manager, Russell Blaik said the partnership, now in in its second year was an example of how guests can find creative ways to give back to Fiji.

“Dani had been coming to the resort for holidays for a few years when she floated the idea of a joint project with the previous general manager.

“We think it’s a win, win situation for all involved and are grateful to be working with EmpowHAIR,” he said.
