Chaudhry Can Contest. Will He?

Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry is keeping his cards close to his chest on his plans for general elections in 2022.
Mr Chaudhry is eligible to contest the 2022 general elections. He was not allowed to contest the last two general elections after he was found guilty of crimes under the Exchange Control Act.
In 2014, academic Rohit Kishore had temporarily held the fort with FLP while in 2018, without giving up the leader’s position; a parliamentary leader’s post was created which was held by lawyer Aman Ravindra-Singh.
When asked about the possibility of him contesting again, Mr Chaudhry said: “You ask me when it is nearer to the 2022 elections, it is too early now.”
He did not reveal what position would be offered to Mr Ravindra-Singh and what the structures of the political party would be.
