Fiji Rapidly Contributing to Global Mobile Platforms

Vodafone chief Technology officer Andrew Kumar has highlighted that when it came to mobile statistics, Fiji is growing at a phenomenal rate when compared to the rest of the world. While presenting at the inaugural Fiji National University National Conference on Information Technology on Friday, Mr Kumar said each of the participants present were key contributors towards this growth.
Mr Kumar indicated that from the period of January 2018-2019 that with the 1.1 per cent increase in the total population, unique mobile users increased 2.0 per cent.
“Either we are part of the food chain or users, we have contributed to this increase,” he said.
“It is important to understand where the world is heading in terms of Information Communication Technology and the internet itself.”
ICT for workforce and soft skills development
Mr Kumar also elaborated on the ICT for workforce and soft skills development.
He said Vodafone Fiji was focused on things which are not in books, soft skills while rationalising the ‘impact’ E-transport.
“We are still catching up but a great number on the regions around the world,” he added.
“If you look at the region in terms of return, we at the level of commitment that we have which is really in contact.”
The presentation indicated that Vodafone currently has 550,000 active users.
Mr Kumar said they have worked with Google to have their mobile services addressed at their centre in Suva.
The theme of the conference “Digital Transformation towards a Smarter Fiji”. It was held at the Pearl Resort in Pacific Habour.
