The Fiji Police Force is investigating an assault claim against Labasa Police officer.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that a report had been lodged by a family member of Ronald Prasad of Siberia, Labasa.

“The complainant is a suspect in an alleged case of drugs and was arrested after he was found in possession of white substances believed to be methamphetamine this week,” Ms Naisoro said.

“When approached he allegedly fled and jumped over a fence and was allegedly injured in the process.

“We will investigate the claims made against the officer.”

Meanwhile, the elder brother of the suspect, Rajen Prasad told Fiji Sun that he was very upset and had spoken to Northern Divisional Police Commander Senior Superintendent of Police Eparama Waqa to take action against a particular Police officer for assault.

“On Tuesday between 5pm to 6pm, Ronald 32, told me that a Police officer stopped and questioned him and his two friends inside a twin cab,” Mr Prasad said.

“The two friends fled with the van and dropped my brother at my garage at Tuatua, Labasa.

“The officer came from behind and hit my brother’s right leg with a rod damaging his ankle.

“He then threw a cup at him and damaged his right ear and then punched him on his face and head and dragged him inside a Police van.

“Upon enquiry at Labasa Police Station I came to know he was inside the cell and later taken to Labasa Hospital,” he said.

“Today (Friday) he got discharged.”
