The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Nadi Police Station will be held this Friday.

This was revealed by the Divisional Police Commander, Western (DPC/W) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Surend Sami during his address to personnel in Nadi on Saturday morning.

SSP Sami said the new Nadi Police Station would meet the demand from communities in Nadi, which will soon be declared a city.

“The old Police station will be completely demolished and at the same site, a new and bigger one will be built,” he said.

“There are three proposed buildings which will temporarily accommodate Nadi Police personnel and this along with the cost of the new station will be revealed this Friday.”

This initiative follows the, Minister for Defence, National Security and Foreign Affairs, Inia Seruiratu, official tour of Police facilities in the Western Division last month.

The minister visited Police stations from Nalawa to Sigatoka, including sites for proposed new Police stations to be constructed in line with the Government’s Police Restructure and Reform Plans.

Lautoka and Nalawa Police Stations in Rakiraki will soon start with the first phase in the construction of its new Police station.

The minister said the Western Division was the largest contributor to the country’s economy and Police would have to provide that much needed security.
