Call it beginner’s luck or first time lucky Greenhouse Studio owner Ronna Sekiguchi was over the moon at the announcement of her winning the Woman Entrepreneur of the year award at the Fiji Development Bank National Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) awards at the Grand Pacific Hotel last Friday.

Mrs Sekiguchi and her small enterprise that started its in 2014, and it has grown through the ranks to become what is today.

For the first time she has applied and to win has boosted not only her morale but those that have stood by her in her growth.

Mrs Sekiguchi said she had not expected to win the award but was grateful to be recognised for her business hard work through the years.

“There were so many different people, nominees and different applicants,” Mrs Sekiguchi said.

“I had told my team and they were very excited about submitting our application; I had told them to just see how it goes and do not expect anything at all because there were a lot of people and business we were up against,” she said.

“Tonight, as the owner I feel overwhelmed, I feel very blessed to have won the award and to be recognised tonight for all the hard work that we have experienced in the last five years.”

She said the Greenhouse Studio is passionate about helping organisations, companies, businesses, groups and individuals in building their identities and reaching out to the right customers, clients, partners and stakeholders using effective mediums of communication and delivering precisely-crafted messages.

“We operate aa a small outfit but we see ourselves as mighty like David against Goliath or the ant that beats the elephant.

“The strength lies in being nimble, flexible and customized to shrink or grow in number by working in collaboration with other trusted specialists, consultants and partners when a project requires it.

“In this way, clients get the benefit of paying only for resources that they truly need. The Greenhouse Studio takes away all that big agency pretence so that you have a one-on-one direct access to the actual people doing the work.

She says this is the fifth year since she started the business and they are celebrating their birthday today coinciding with International Women’s Day.

Ms Yee said, “Over 90 per cent of our client are agencies that have a direct impact in the communities like the UN women, Pacific Women, UNDP, there’s like four different programmes at SPC that we work with so when they talk about SDG I really felt it because when we started our business our mantra was to change so I wanted to use my skills for good so that was the whole idea of starting the business.

“I used to manage an advertising business before but I thought I wanted to use more of my skills and my talent to make an impact in the community.

“There are eight people that I employ including myself; we believe in the power of being small and innovative because being small allows us to be very personal with the way we deliver our services to our clients.

“This means so much, we have been recognised in terms of our creative work but in terms of the business itself I believe it is an advocacy message of what a woman can achieve and do.”
