Gareth Baber: We Can Still Win

Fiji Airways Fijian 7s coach Gareth Baber remains adamant that they can hit the top spot of the 2018/19 HSBC World Sevens Series with four tournaments remaining.
“It’s possible and I think we did ourselves a good break jumping with New Zealand and USA this weekend, said Coach Baber.
“There is always a chance mathematically.”
Coming up is the Asian leg with the Hong Kong 7s from April 5-7 and the Singapore 7s on April 13-14. The Europe leg kicks-off with the London 7s on May 25-26 followed by the Paris 7s on June 1-2.
“Would have been even better if we had won the tournament, but we came up against a good South African side that had a bit of form as well.
“We are also looking at teams coming up and putting the pressure on, but you know things can change in the space of four tournaments.”
Baber said USA have been remarkably consistent this season and they deserved to win the USA 7s.
“But we are happy to get over what we have had this weekend. Surely we’ll be in a fight but for us as a group of players in a programme we’ll want to finish at the top of the tree with four tournaments left.”
The team returns to camp tomorrow for their medical assessment and will also undergo a training session. This will continue to next week on Monday and Tuesday.
Baber has called on fans to have faith despite Fiji being on the third spot with 101 points behind leaders USA (113) and New Zealand (106).
