Editorial: Kudos To Patel On FIFA Appointment

Congratulations to Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel on his FIFA appointment.
He becomes the first Fijian to be appointed to the FIFA Council.
The appointment was made during the Oceania Football Confederation Extraordinary Congress at the Sky City Grand Hotel in Auckland, New Zealand last week.
Fiji FA chief executive officer, Mohammed Yusuf, said it right: That the appointment was a proud moment not only for Patel but for Fiji as well.
With such a prestige appointment and the fact that FIFA’s core values are transparency, account- ability, integrity, solidarity, courage, justice and democracy, Patel should publicly announce the outcome of investigations conducted on national football coach Christophe Gamel.
The Fiji SUN had highlighted on January 26 the alleged abuse, threats and assaults some of our Under-23 and women players also claimed to have faced under Gamel and certain team officials.
Parents of the players had also voiced their concerns through the Fiji SUN as well.
Patel must put a closure to the case by publicly coming out with the outcome of the investigation. Not only that, he should also name the members of the Board of Control, who were tasked to investigate Gamel.
This is important in the sense of Fair Play, which is another value championed by FIFA.
