Red Cross Disaster Management Team with volunteers from Sasa Village in Macuta on March 16, 2019.

The Fiji Red Cross Society has been conducting community disaster awareness plans for volunteers in the Northern Division.

A team of six from the society arrived in Labasa on Tuesday to educate volunteers in the various communities on  the Red Cross Disaster Programme.

The package also includes first-aid training and evacuation drill on how members of the communities should prepare themselves for a disaster and what to actually do when there is a natural disaster.

At Sasa, Macuata, the team installed a flag and an early warning system, which will be sounded by the headman when impending disaster looms.

And the community members should know where and how to evacuate when disaster strikes.

A similar awareness programme will be conducted in Rabi and Savusavu.
