Football Player Remanded, Pleaded Guilty To Act With Intent To Cause Grievous Harm

A former Rewa Football player has been remanded in custody pending sentencing by the High Court in Suva on Tuesday, March 20.

Mitieli Namuka, who pleaded guilty to one count of act with intent to cause grievous harm, appeared before Judge Justice Chamath Morais.

The court heard that the complainant in the matter is his wife and the offence took place after a drinking session whereby Namuka threw a glass at the complainant.

State prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Sadaf Shameem told the court that the complainant had received multiple lac­erations on her head and neck.

She also sought seven days to file the sentencing submissions.

The matter was adjourned for sen­tencing hearing to March 27.
