Gareth Baber: We Want To Win Series

Fiji Airways Fijian 7s head coach Gareth Baber has emphasised that they want to finish on top of the 2018/2019 HSBC World Sevens Series points table.
The extended squad completed another training session at Albert Park, Suva yesterday.
The Welshman confirmed duo Jerry Tuwai and Kalione Nasoko are undergoing recovery treatment after sustaining injuries.
“Both Jerry and Kali had injuries with their knees and had injections,” he said.
“Nasoko had some fluid drained off his knee so its low emphasis in terms of an injury.
“It’s important that they are given ample time to recover and we hope to see both of them in the future training sessions.”
Baber said build-up towards the series they have another four tournaments to play and each game to them is like the final.
“We want to finish on top of the world and the next tournament is an important one and we are put in a tough pool.
“And obviously we will need to look far ahead of our pool threats and keeping in mind the goal we are chasing- that is to win the series.
Baber also highlighted that he will be releasing a few of the players to play in the 43rd Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament that starts in Suva tomorrow.
“We need to ensure that these players don’t pick up any injury with the amount of training they have done this week.
“Especially with the volume of work they need to do when coming into the Hong Kong 7s week so they need to be up to that level.
“There is always that danger when you release these players as they can get injured.
“But as a coach I’m mindful of the fact that some of these players need game time as well.”
Meanwhile, Baber also said that Edinburgh Rugby have shown continuous interest on Mesulame Kunavula as he’s hopeful of joining the club at the end of the season.
“At the moment I’m not sure if he has finalised the contract. For him as a young man that’s the next stepping stone for him.”
