Minister for Labour and Industrial Relations of the government of Papua New Guinea Mehrra Kipefa has extended their sincere and deepest sympathy toward the loss of Fijians in the Christchurch terror attack.

Mr Kipefa is in Fiji to discuss works to be held in PNG.

He paid a courtesy visit to the Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations, Youth and Sports Parveen Bala on Wednesday.

Mr Bala highlighted that their discussions focused on the high level meeting tripartite dialogue on the future work to be held in Papua New Guinea and two other International events that PNG would host.

This includes the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Centennial celebration and the Regional Labour Ministers’ meeting on the Labour Mobility Scheme and seasonal work.

“Part of the Regional Labour Ministers’ meeting is to also look at the views of other Pacific Island countries that are non-members of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and to voice their issues during the high level tripartite dialogue meeting focusing on leaving no one behind, Mr Bala said.

There were also discussions on climate change, future disaster resilience and employment securities in the Pacific.

Mr Bala thanked the government of PNG for hosting an important meeting. He also assured the PNG delegation that Fiji would be well represented in this worthy cause because Fiji and PNG are the two major players of ILO agendas and other labour aspects in the Pacific region.
