An immigration officer in Namaka, Nadi charged with one count of rape was remanded by the Nadi Magistrates Court yesterday.

Pranil Prakash Sen, 35, was produced before Magistrate Peni Dalituicama.

The accused allegedly raped a 21-year-old woman of Martintar, Nadi, earlier this month.

The accused’s lawyer, Jiten Reddy told the court that he was aware that the charge was serious and indictable.

Mr Reddy told the court that if the accused was granted bail, he would be relocated to Waidova, Navua.

Prosecution officer, Inspector Parmesh Chand told the court that the case was in the public’s interest and if the accused would be granted bail, the accused would make the situation more difficult for the alleged victim.

Magistrate Dalituicama remanded the accused in custody and will make a bail ruling on March 25.
