Jasper, Natabua Rule Zone Competition

Natabua High School and Jas­per Williams High claimed the Lautoka/Yasawa Athlet­ics zone titles in the boy’s and girl’s division respectively at Churchill Park, Lautoka yesterday.

Natabua’s Nemani Mudrelagi and Salote Baravilala of Jasper also won the best male and female ath­letes respectively.

Mudrelagi won three gold med­als in the 100m, 200m and 4 x 400m relay and Baravilala in the 100m, 200m and 4 x 100m relay.

Mudrelagi said he was looking for­ward to the Coca-Cola Games next month at Suva’s ANZ Stadium.

He said he would need to work harder to win there.

“I thank the teachers for their sup­port and training,” he added.

Jasper’s Baravilala said that she was aiming to repeat her winning performance at the Coke Games.

Her three-gold medal performance inspired Jasper to another Zone ti­tle this year.

Two records were broken on day two of the zone meet.

Adi Ulamila of Jasper broke the triple jump senior girls record, jumping a distance of 11.21m, eras­ing Francis Kurivitu’s (Jasper) re­cord of 11.02m set in 2017.

In the sub-junior discus throw, Faith Kukusei of Jasper threw a distance of 21.02m, superseding Adi Elenoa’s (Natabua) record of 21m set in 2017.

Pundit Vishnu Deo Memorial Col­lege’s Amit Sharma retained the 3000m gold medal boys division for the third year running, clocking a time of 15.44 minutes ahead of An­tonio Nemani (Natabua) and team mate Aman Kumar.
