The selection process was conducted in January this year to identify the best candidates.

The United States Military Academy was established in 1802. It is a distinguished military institution intended to develop future military leaders by educating, training and inspiring the Corps of Cadets to graduate as a commissioned leader of character committed to the values of duty, honor, country and prepared for a career of professional excellence and service to the nation as an officer in the United States of America Army.

The selection process for the Fiji Navy candidates was conducted at the Naval Base and the selection process for the Fiji Army candidates was conducted at the Officers Training School in Vatuwaqa.

Interested candidates were interviewed followed by an IQ Test to measure their intellectual capability to identify suitable candidates for the US Military Academy.

Four candidates were selected to go through the Fiji Navy officer’s selection and five candidates were selected to go through the Fiji Army selection phases.

All candidates have also completed the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) which was conducted at the US Embassy to Fiji.

They are awaiting their results.

Presently, the candidates are undertaking the Basic Recruit Course at the Fiji Naval base in Togalevu, outside Suva.

The candidates are required to complete the Basic Recruit Course and the SAT results will enable the US Embassy to determine the two successful candidates to undertake military officer training at the West Point Military Academy.
