The New Zealand High Commissioner, Jonathan Curr, has been notified that he is now counted a member of Yanuya Village in the Malolo District.

This was after retired head teacher for Waicoba District School in Nadroga and Yanuya villager Semisi Nacewa confirmed this with Mr Curr during his visit to the village to commission a major water project in the past week.

Mr Curr was also accorded full traditional iTaukei ceremonies of welcome by members of the village.

Mr Nacewa acknowledged Mr Curr for his kind gesture and for having a good heart and assisting the villagers of Yanuya.

“We thank you for the good heart and we count you as a member of this village,” Mr Nacewa said.

Mr Curr said as New Zealand still mourned for the loss of the 50 lives in the recent terrorist attack in Christchurch, New Zealand, Fiji stood as a source of strength for all New Zealanders.

“We draw strength from the support that we have from all the people of Fiji,” Mr Curr said.

“You give us strength through your thoughts and prayers and your good wishes.

“The New Zealand that values and welcomes diversity, kindness, compassion, peace is still the New Zealand that exists today.

“These are still our values and these will be strengthened from the horrible attack that happened in my country,” he said.
