Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama will be chief guest during the 5th annual Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort ‘Walk for Kids”next month’.

The annual event is held to raise money to improve education in the Nadroga-Navosa Province.

Resort front office manager Salote Bali said yesterday that this year’s event, slated for April 6, would be held in partnership with the Sigatoka Special School.

Last year, the 10-kilometre Walk for Kids raised $47,000, including a $20,000 pledge from the Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

The funds helped to purchase a four-wheel drive vehicle for the teachers at the Special School.

This is an initiative of the Outrigger Fiji Sales and Marketing and Reservations team.

“The day is dedicated to fostering a greater sense of partnership within the Sigatoka community and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle,” Mrs Bali said.

“All funds raised from this year’s walk will go towards assisting the children at the Sigatoka School for children with special needs as well as the development of schools in the province. “Participants will include resort guests and staff, local business partners and other tourism stakeholders”.

The walk will begin at Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort and continue through Sunset Strip, Korotogo, along the Queens Highway, across the Melrose Bridge and past Sigatoka Town before finishing at Sigatoka Special School.

Participants will gather at 6.45am for a briefing at the resort lobby with the walk starting at 7am.

All participants will be welcomed at the finish line at Sigatoka Special School by students and teachers and presented with certificate, prizes, giveaways, games and activities to mark the event.

Mrs Bali said people wishing to donate to the cause could do so via the Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort WALK FOR KIDS 2019 gofundme page.
