Ratu Kadavulevu School senior boys long jump gold medalist Aporosa Taqiri is aiming for a win at next month’s Coca-Cola Games.

The Savu, Vugalei, Tailevu native won gold in the senior boy’s long jump with a distance of 6.56m during the Tailevu Zone at the ANZ Stadium, Suva yesterday.

The-18-year-old recorded his best jump in his first attempt, setting the pace for his competitors.

He won gold in the intermediate grade in the Fiji finals last year.

“Long jump is my only event and my main aim is to win gold at the Cokes,” Taqiri said.

“I have to improve my distance and will now move a level up in my preparation.

“The school have been doing so much to prepare the athletes and now it’s left for us to do our part.

“I will just need to polish up on my skills and techniques before next month.”

The year 13 student wants to do his best for the school.

“It’s not just winning gold for my school but leaving behind a good record.”
