Fiji Airways Fijian 7s player Livai Ikanikoda for the first time has spoken about his comeback to the Fiji Airways Fijian Sevens team after a lapse of almost eight years.

The Police 7s skipper suffered a major injury at a time where it would have been the pinnacle of his 7s career back in the 2011/2012 HSBC World Sevens Series.

But after two years of rest and followed by years of hard work in getting back into shape, the star player of the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s last week was selected.

He was announced as one of the 14-member-Gareth Baber coached side to join the team for the Hong Kong 7s which starts next Friday.

“It feels good I have finally returned to the team. But it has been a long journey,” Ikanidoda said.

“I was willing to go on and never lose hope in order to don the white jumper once again.”

Ikanikoda is among players who can fill in the vacuum at the playmaker position.

“The playmaker position is an important role because it plays a crucial link in the game and it is the playmaker that sets the pace of the game,” he said.

“I joined again in 2014 but I was not selected then I knew that I needed to return to that peak which involved a lot of sacrifices.

“I have never fallen short of my dreams because rugby has always been in my mind, heart and soul.”
