Fiji Police: Man Arrested Over Alleged Nude Photos And Porn Videos

Police yesterday arrested a 23-year-old Suva man suspected of being involved in a local porn ring.

This is a major breakthrough for the Police in their bid to crack down on sexual offences.

Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho yesterday confirmed that the man was arrested after Police received overwhelming information about how young men, mostly professionals holding good jobs, are involved in collecting and sharing nude photographs and porn videos.

What is being investigated:

It is believed that the man and others gather nude images of young Fijian men and send them to others overseas to get those men to come to Fiji to engage in sexual activities.

Brigadier-General Qiliho revealed that most of this happened through the internet and also involved juveniles.

What happens:

It is understood that apart from exchanging nudes of other young men, including minors, suspects would perform sexual acts live on the app Snapchat, which would be viewed by a live audience from around the world.

A large number of young Fijians use apps such as Snapchat because it is another social networking app.

Brigadier-General Qiliho confirmed that they had successfully gotten people convicted under Section 377.

Brigadier-General Qiliho said that section 377 of the Crimes Act deals with traffic in obscene publications.

The section reads:

(1) A person commits a summary offence if he or she— Traffic in obscene publications

(b) for any of the purposes stated in paragraph (a), and in relation to any matters or things described in paragraph (a)-

(2) publicly exhibits any indecent show or performance or any show or performance tending to corrupt morals.
