Road Accident Claims Life Of Anne Taake, 26

Anne Taake was described as a happy person.
Anne, who was 26, is the latest road accident victim. She died after the vehicle she was travelling in veered off the road.
The vehicle was driven by a 54-year-old man who is a radio announcer, a Police statement said.
Her uncle, Tekouea Ani was shocked when he heard that his niece was no more.
“Anne was someone who was always smiling and loved to socialise.
“In 2015, when my sister (Anne’s mum) died, Anne and her younger sister came from Rabi and stayed with one of my sisters,” Mr Ani said.
“Anne was the second youngest of four siblings. She was still
young and I am still shocked that she is no more. The Police came in the morning and asked where she lived, so we told the officers.
“We didn’t know what happened to her until now and I want to thank you for letting me know. I heard it on the news but didn’t think that it was Anne.”
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the victim was identified by a relative.
“The accident occurred along Nasese where the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle causing it to veer off the road at Gardner Place,” Ms Naisoro said.
“A team from the Totogo Police Station managed to rescue the driver and the victim, the vehicle which was partially submerged in the water.
“She was rushed to the CWM Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival. The victim was in her 20s
and is originally from Rabi Island, was working at a major supermarket outlet in Laucala Beach,” Ms Naisoro said.
“A post mortem will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death. The suspect remains in custody.”
Another in hospital
In a separate incident, a 66-year- old woman is admitted at the CWM Hospital after she was hit by a bus at the Suva Bus Stand on Friday.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said: “At about 1.30am at the Suva bus stand an S Nair bus hit a 66-year-old woman.
“The driver had stopped at the foot crossing for pedestrians to cross when the (victim) allegedly came from the side and crossed in front of the bus when the alleged incident occurred.”
