Former Fijiana 7s and XVs back Wainikiti Deku will put on her boxing gloves when she takes on Katrina Singh at the Tilak High School hall in Lautoka on April 13.

“I’ve been playing rugby but when I got the opportunity to fight then I’ve not giving it up,” the Navosa native who had captained Nadroga Women in last year’s Skipper Cup Premier.

Deku said she comes from a boxing family where she is closely related to former Fiji heavyweight champion Mosese Kavika.

The province of Navosa are renowned for producing champion boxers like To- masi Kavika, Luke Sisiwa, Niko Degei, Mitieli Navuilawa, Mosese Kavika, Ilaitia Vaka, Sakiasi Dakua and the list goes on.

“This is my second professional fight and my first fight ended in a draw.”

Looking at her opponent, Deku says, Singh is a good fighter with a lot of experience compared to her.

“But the outcome will be decided in the ring. I will not make any prediction because I have respect for my opponent.”

The 4×2 mins round women’s fight is surely going to attract a lot of attention among the fans.
