Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama is concerned that some churches in Fiji openly support same-sex marriage.

While he did not call out the name of the denomination, he was concerned as leader of Government.

He made the comments while officiating at the ground breaking ceremony of the Halaiwalu Subdivision, Nasoqela in Raralevu.

Mr Bainimarama apologised to the Roko Tui Namata for bringing up the issue of same-sex marriage at such an event.

He said that while there are human rights for each individual, he does not agree with same sex marriage.

“As your leader and as Government, we are concerned about the issues that plague us today – in particular among different denominations.”
