Attorney General Meets World Bank, IMF Reps

The leadership role follows Fiji’s successful presidency of COP23 of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum met with Yvonne Tsikata, Vice President and Corporate Secretary of the World Bank and Jianhai Lin, Secretary of the International Monetary Fund in Washington DC.

The meet was in relation to Fiji’s role as chair of the 2019 Annual Meeting of the Governors of the World Bank Group (WBG) and International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum also met with Manuela Ferro, Vice President of Operations Policy and Country Services of the World Bank in preparation for Fiji’s forthcoming role as chair of the World Bank’s Small States Forum at the WBG and IMF Spring Meetings.

The leadership role follows Fiji’s successful presidency of COP23 of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

“Fiji’s role as the Chair of the Small States Forum is critical in advancing action on cross-cutting issues like climate change and drawing the connection between the United Nations and multilateral development partners such as the World Bank”, Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

He will also chair the Joint Committee on Remuneration and co-host an event with Norway’s Minister of Development, Dag Inge Ulstein.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum will also attend the V20 Ministerial Dialogue, Joint Governors Meeting of the WBG-IMF Southeast Asia Constituency, Oceans Workshop and Launch of the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action.

Additionally, he will meet with Victoria Kwakwa, Vice President for East Asia and the Pacific, Mr Vivek Pathak, IFC Regional Director for East Asia and the Pacific and delegations from Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Poland and Sweden.
