A 36-year-old pastor of a church in Nausori who is facing rape charges appeared at the High Court in Suva.

Pastor Ravinesh Chand is charged with three counts of rape and one count each of sexual assault and indecent assault.

He appeared before Justice Thushara Rajasinghe yesterday.

It is alleged that on March 21 in Luvuluvu, Nausori, Chand had unlawfully and indecently assaulted the complainant by kissing her.

On the same day, Chand is alleged to have sexually assaulted the victim and raped her on three occasions.

The accused is alleged to have committed the offence on a 15-year-old girl who is a member of the congregation.

State prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Susan Serukai asked for 21 days to file for information and disclosures.

Defence lawyer Jiten Reddy sought for seven days thereafter to advice for plea. The accused has been further remanded in custody.

The case was adjourned to May 2 before Justice Daniel Goundar.
