The Minister for Fisheries Semi Koroilavesau handed over a new boat and engine to the Nakovacake fish wardens in Navoci Village, Nadi, yesterday.

He said it was the first boat to given to a village on mainland by the ministry and thanked the Nakovacake Development Trust for their efforts.

There are 30 licensed fish wardens in the village who have undergone training and have been certified.

Trust secretary, Asinate Dawai said, the new boat would also assist them in combating illegal fishers in Nakovacake’s traditional fishing grounds, which spans from Akuilau Island near Denarau to Lomo- lomo, Vuda.
