Nadogo Central College is hoping to stamp its mark at the Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association national finals, otherwise known as the Coca Cola Games.

The three-day annual athletics meet starts today at Suva’s ANZ Stadium and will be followed by thousands across the country.

The four-time Macuata Zone One champions will field 20 athletes at this year’s meet, 15 more than last year.

They stormed to victory at the zone last month, with 34 gold, 30 silver and 22 bronze medals.

The school’s principal, Mohammed Khan, says they aim was to win a historic gold medal at the games this year.

“Our Year Nine student, Losavati Crystal, scooped a silver medal in the 1,500 meters event last year and she is back again this year,” Khan said.

“Our students will be participating mostly in the lower grades long distance events, including the 3000m race this morning.

“We would like to thank our sponsors Nadogo Bilibili Association and Best Promotions Limited for giving us the opportunity to bring a bigger team this year.”

The school is camping at Raku Sukuna Memorial Secondary School in Nabua, Suva.

“Our school is located in the remote area of Macuata Province and we have travelled very far over the weekend with great hope,” Khan added.

“We would like to thank the ex-scholars in Suva and parents for their great support,” he said.

“Our first event is 3,000 metres today (Tuesday) at the ANZ Stadium.”

Meanwhile, Ratu Kadavulevu School and Adi Cakobau School will be defending the boys and girls titles respectively.
