The late Letila Buna and her partner Manuel Williams Tuilewa. Ms Buna was on her way to meet Mr Tuilewa when she allegedly lost control of the vehicle she was driving near Yarawa, Serua.

“It is better that you do not come with me, because if something were to happen, let it be me.”

This was what Letila Buna had told her kids on Sunday afternoon when she left for Nadi Airport to meet her partner Manuel Williams Tuilewa who was returning from Australia.

The 52-year old from Naimataga in Lami, allegedly lost control of the vehicle she was driving causing it to veer off the road near Yarawa, Serua.

Originally from Vaturova, Ms Buna was mother to six children, four daughters and two sons who are still trying to come to terms with the fact that their mother is no more. Her son Gabriel Victor Masara described his mother as a charismatic and giving person who loved to take care of everyone around her.

“She had a big heart and she had a lot of empathy for troubled people,” Mr Masara said.

“She was involved with the Catholic community, always working for good causes.”

He added his mother had always been there for him and he recalled how till the end she had protected everyone by taking the journey to Nadi alone even though everyone was volunteering to go with her.

Her fiance, Mr Tuilewa said he had admired the strength and courage with which Ms Buna had lived her life, taking care of her children.

“We were looking forward to a future together,” he said.

The funeral will take place this week at the family’s home in Lami.
