Training twice a week at the Sigatoka sand dunes finally paid off for Naduri, Nadroga na­tive Sefanaia Tokaduadua when he won a gold medal in the sub junior boys 1500m final at the ANZ Stadium, Suva yesterday.

The Year 9 student of Sigatoka Methodist High School clocked 4:50.32 minutes to claim first place ahead of Niusawa Methodist High School’s Josese Kalaidreketi and Iowane Cakauseraki who won the silver and bronze medals respectively with a time of 4:51.90mins and 4:53.08mins.

“I always train every Monday and Friday at the sand dunes and I was confident of beating everyone today,” Tokaduadua said.

“I came in prepared and I’m happy to make my school proud.”

The 14-year-old believes that winning the gold for his family has made it more special for him.

“And I’m not forgetting everyone in my village also,” he added.
