Drug Charge Villager Has Bail Extended

A 43-year-old Kadavu man facing drug charges in the High Court in Suva has had his bail extended.

Ratu Tevita Lalakonakoro appeared before Justice Chamath Morais yesterday charged with one count of unlawful cultivation of illicit drugs, namely marijuana.

It is alleged that on February 19, 2019, in Kadavu, the accused had 172 marijuana plants weighing 95 kilograms seized from his farm.

State prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Rajneel Kumar told the court that the State was to file information yesterday (Tuesday) however, he asked to be given seven days to file the information.

He told the court that the offence was under category four of illicit drug offences. The matter was adjourned to May 6 for mention.
