Hundred of Suva Catholics Celebrate Chrism Mass

Hundreds of Catholics flocked to the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Suva to attend the Roman Catholic Church Chrism Mass. Archbishop Peter Loy Chong, who led the mass, pointed out the importance and significance of the two symbolisms of the Chrism Mass.
“So today we celebrate the priesthood of Jesus Christ where the priests renew their vows that they made on their day of ordination and that is to respect the Bishop, their promise to be obedient and respect the Bishop.”
“The other is the symbolism of the oil that we bless today. We use oil for healing, empowerment, revitalisation or renewal by God same way how we use oil in our different cultures to heal, to strengthen, to energise people,” said Archbishop Loy Chong.
The Chrism Mass is an important look at the bishop’s priesthood and signifies the closeness of the priests to him.
The mass is a service where the holy oil is being blessed and is then given to priests to take back to their individual parishes.
