Judiciary Welcomes Resident Magistrate

Acting Chief Justice Kumar takes over from Justice Anthony Gates, who retired as Chief Justice more than a week ago.

Judiciary Welcomes Resident Magistrate

The judiciary welcomed another addition to its ranks after the swearing in of a resident magistrate yesterday.

Resident Magistrate Nilmini Fernandez was sworn in at State House before President Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote.

Ms Fernandez holds a Master of Laws Degree from Queen Mary, University of London, Bachelors of Laws Degree at Open University of Sri Lanka and a Post Graduate Diploma in International Relations.

Also in attendance at the swearing in was acting Chief Justice Kamal Kumar, who took over last Monday.

Acting Chief Justice Kumar takes over from Justice Anthony Gates, who retired as Chief Justice more than a week ago.

Justice Gates has since been appointed as a sitting judge of the Supreme Court.
