It was a proud moment for Kamil Muslim College athlete Valami Rasiga after winning the sub junior boys high jump event at the ANZ Stadium, Suva yesterday.

The Sasa villager from Ba won the gold medal with a jump of 1.65m.

“I feel so proud to win my school’s only gold medal in this year’s Games,” he said.

“It’s after a while my school won gold in the games and I’m happy with my performance.

“I came into this competition as an underdog, I know there are other top schools that will be competing but I had faith and trusted myself.”

The Year 9 student dedicated his achievement to his coaches.

“I want to thank my coaches for training me every day in school and helping me to be the best athlete in the sub junior boy’s high jump and also my family back in Ba,” she said.

“I will definitely come back next year and compete in the high jump.”
