About Koroipita

Koroipita Model Town  founder Peter Drysdale have confirmed that a group of journalists and some delegates who will be attending the ADB conference will tour Koroipita in early May.

He also noted that the representatives of the German Government attending the conference have made a separate bookings to visit the settlement.

Mr Drysdale added the settlement has raised a lot of interest to other delegates who have yet to confirm their visitation as well.

Based in Naikabula, Lautoka, Koripita is the home of about 1,000 people living in comfortable two-roomed houses with amenities, located near Lautoka, Fiji.

Koroipita is a life giving community and an outstanding model of how a good quality of life can be provided for such large numbers of underprivileged people.

“This model town is extremely important for climate adaptation and Fiji with the increasing problem of rural-urban drift, to avoid slumps this is how you manage it,” he said.

“That is a practical example of how to build resilience and how to settle climate change refugees in the future.

“So this should be tremendous interest of anyone interested of all this talks and climate change adaptation.”

“The word is getting out there and international attention has focused on Koroipita Model town.

“We have a model town prescription, and it can be applied in any country but we want to expand because of our need in Fiji and it can be transferred to any country.”

Mr Drysdale said having the journalist visitation has really an important practical model with its worldwide significance.
