Emotional Dana Chambers of St Thomas High School was in tears after she won gold in the sub junior girls’ high jump event on Friday at the ANZ Stadium.

She recorded a distance of 1.45m followed by Nani Nukula of Adi Cakobau School who also jumped 1.45 but after three attempts and Ella Dunn of Jasper Williams High School third (1.40).

Chambers dedicated the win to her late coach/teacher Veniana Ratoko who passed away recently.

“I was not expecting to win gold but just a medal,” Chambers said

“I feel this win would not have been possible without the support of my parents, teachers and most importantly my late coach Ratoko who had always encouraged me to do better.

“This is also my first year competing in the Coca-Cola Games.

“I now look forward to competing again next year and continue to do better and lift my performance.”
