The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) confirms there has been some progress on the repair works to the leakage on the high pressure raw water pipeline near the Vaturu Dam. The work is disrupting supply to areas of Lautoka.

The leaking 711mm MSCL tee along the Vaturu-Nagado high-pressure raw water pipeline at Batiri has been under repairs since Thursday.

Authority contractor, Elisha Engineering Co. Limited, continue to conduct repairs at the site.

The repairs involve heavy metal works which require cutting of steel pipes, grinding and welding.

WAF general manager customer services and acting general manager operations, Sekove Uluinayau said contractors had to work on the chambers to allow workers to access the site and do repairs without hindrance.

“Some clearing was done just to allow the workers to work underneath the pipes and also to work on the butterfly valve,” Mr Uluinayau said

“By Saturday morning, they had managed to install the serviced butterfly valve.”

During the repair and restoration period, water supply will be disrupted to elevated residential areas of Lautoka City until 6 am Tuesday April 23.
