Malele Boosts Touch Team

Fiji Airways Fijian Drua and Suva fullback Enele Malele departed yesterday with the national teams for the 2019 Touch World Cup in Malaysia.

The inclusion of the Ketei, Totoya, Lau native will definitely boost the team’s chances at the event where Fiji is in Pool A with Scotland, Samoa, South Africa, Singapore, England and defending champions Australia

The 29-year-old said the sport has as­sisted him in his rugby career.

“I am looking forward to my second Touch Rugby World Cup,” he said.

“I’ve been involved with touch rugby since I was 16 and it has assisted me in my rugby.”

Malele made his debut while still a student of Suva Grammar School at the 2007 Pacific Games in Samoa.

“To be fit in rugby you to need to max­imise your preparation.

“I thank my employer Reserve Bank of Fiji for allowing me to represent Fiji in this sport.”

The team is captained by Ropate Chan and other notable names include Tre­vor Cleary, Johansson Nauluvula, Jale­si Young, and Rusiate Baleitamavua.

Baleitamavua, 17, a student of Marist Brothers High School was part of the senior boys 4x100m relay team that won silver medal at the Coke Games.

Meanwhile, Australia based David Sen will join the team in Kuala Lumpur today.
