Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) youths are mobilising their forces to try to stop the party’s annual general meeting from being held in Savusavu.

Their move is in support of their president Jope Koroisavou who had earlier sent a petition to party HQ questioning the rationale of Savusavu as the venue.

The SODELPA Youth Wing has put out a notice to hold its own AGM on Tuesday  April 30 at 11am, at the Wesley City Mission Church Hall, Butt Street in Suva.

The notice on their Facebook page states: “In accordance with Section 20 (3) of the SODELPA Constitution notice is hereby given for the Annual General Meeting of the SODELPA Youth Forum.
What is at stake here?

At the SODELPA Youth Forum, youth leader Jope Koroisavou and his team are expected to pass a resolution to hold a Special General Meeting in Suva.

Once that is fixed, they intend to use the SGM to pass another resolution to stop the SODELPA AGM from being held in Savusavu.

Mr Koroisavou had raised a series of questions for party HQ about accountability and transparency.

His email triggered a heated email exchange between former MP businesswoman Mere Samisoni  and MP Mosese Bulitavu.

Ms Samisoni criticised the party for treating her poorly and campaigning against her in her own Lami Constituency. Mr Bulitavu defended the party hierarchy.

The row escalated and raised the issue of party leadership. Former Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase was touted as a possible candidate to replace Sitiveni Rabuka as party leader.
CBM on the move:

While the SODELPA Youth movement is seeking avenues to stop the Party AGM from going to Savusavu, SODELPA headquarters has gone ahead to prepare for the June meeting.

For a month now Party chief strategist Pita Wise is believed to have been in Vanua Levu holding a membership drive to build up numbers up North. He is joined by another youth member Jay Tokoni.

Party general secretary Adi Litia Qionibaravi was emailed questions about Mr Wise’s activities in Vanua Levu. She had not replied when this edition when to press.

SODELPA MPs yesterday informed Fiji Sun that they had been informed that the AGM will be held in Savusavu on June 8. This is a day after the national Budget announcement which will start at 7pm in Parliament.

MPs aired their frustration that this was deliberately done to ensure people did not reach Savusavu in time and in numbers to counter any planned moves by the Vanua Levu bloc at the AGM.
