UNDER YOUR NOSE

Nausori Town Council needs to get their anti-litter team to go opposite their office and check on the rubbish piled up at the old market. That would be a good start.

On that note, BTL is happy to see more rubbish bins out in the residential vicinities but it would also be good if people made use of them rather than discarding their rubbish without another thought

KNOW YOUR LINE

Members of the public need to be mindful to not invade the boundaries of a crime scene.

As seen yesterday some people were risking their lives to take a closer look at the scene where a car had plunged into the river.

This was despite Police putting up a yellow tape around the area asking people to stay away.

On that note, some chatter was on social media about why Police did not continue the search for a vehicle which veered off into the river.

It would have been sheer madness for Police divers to dive further given the strong currents and rising water levels.

We cannot risk the lives of our officers

IPSO FACTO

Justice David Alfred has made a ruling which will force the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service to take a look at some of their enforcement measures.

In his ruling delivered recently, Justice Alfred did not hold back.

In fact, he said: “It is plain as a pikestaff that the CEO of Revenue is not a judge nor a court nor a member of the judicial branch of the Government.”

He then went on to refer to a notice that FRCS issued to a vendor which stated that “…this notice will take effect as a conviction from the court…”

“I shall state quite categorically that this part of the notice has no such effect nor can it ipso facto convert itself to something tantamount to a conviction by the court.”
