Fireworks are expected during the inaugural Fiji Gold Bloom Magic Netball tournament that gets underway at the SSKMC ground in Nadi today.

Clubs as far as Suva, Sigatoka and Lautoka will battle it out with the host teams.

Tournament organiser and netball enthusiast Vilikesa Driu said they have the prize money of $1000 for the winners and runners- up to pocket $600.

“This is part and parcel of development of the sport of netball in the district,” he said.

Driu said it’s important to do talent search in this sort of competition which is crucial to the development of netball.

“So far there are eight open teams and 12 mixed teams registered including clubs like Tagimoucia Suva, Western Marine I, and II, Bloom magic I, II and III and Korovuto.”

In the mixed grade are USP Netters, Bloom Magic Diamonds, BM Sapphire, BM Gold, Neighbours Nadi 1, Neighbours Nadi II, Bounty Lautoka, Salad Bowl Nadroga, and Western Marine 1.

Driu thanked Paradise Beverages for their sponsorship in grassroots sports.

Today’s registration is from 8am to 8.30am with the official opening by Paradise Beverages as competition kicks-off 9am.
