After two minor landslides occurred in Cakaudrove Province earlier this week, Divisional Planning Officer (DPO) North Uraia Rainima confirmed that they would continue monitoring the weather condition. This is despite an emergency operation centre not being activated.

Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) in a statement confirmed by that there was a full road closure because of the landslide at Transinsular Road at Jerusalemi Village in Savusavu.

FRA added that the Buca Bay Road was fully closed as well as a result of the landslide between Loa Village and Navonu Village.

The statement also mentioned that they mobilised a team to each site to assess the situation because it was vital to ensure the safety of members of the public.

By late yesterday, they opened single lane access once it was deemed safe.

Meanwhile, in Macuata Province by midday on Wednesday, some river banks burst and water over- flowed covering the iris crossing causing road blocks at areas such

as Boca, Urata, Boubale, Vatuni- bale and Batinikama.

“The heads of departments and staff in our office have been monitoring the weather situation in the usual manner,” Mr Rainima said.

“Also the district officers, village headmen and provincial administrators have been monitoring the situations.

“As for some crossings and roads in low lying areas of Macuata Province like at Qawa, Urata, Boubale, Boca, Soasoa, Dreketilailai, Lagalaga and Nakelikoso usually gets flooded especially when there is continuous heavy rain.

“However, after some hours the water recedes and motorists and pedestrians could access.”
